Cell Coverage
Up until 2020, the only phones that seem to work well in Lake Arrowhead were those that utilize AT&T towers. Members have reported success with Consumers Cellular and with Cricket. As of January 2020 we can add T-Mobile to the list of companies that work well here. They recently added their antenna to the tower by Hayes Tower and Arapaho.
Internet
Pigeon’s sister company, Agri-Valley Services, provides DSL. To subscribe see: https://www.agrivalleyservices.com/ Satellite internet is also available from other companies.
T-Mobile also provides wireless home internet service that works in many areas of Lake Arrowhead
Electricity
Propane
The Association has a long-term tank lease agreement with Amerigas for residents who want propane piped into their homes (Toll free: 866-453-4271). Rates for the year are normally locked in by August. Residents who prefer to have a “pig” can contact any of the local propane companies for prices and service. LAPOA Members will need to request Lake Arrowhead Community Propane Pricing when they sign up with Amerigas. Natural gas is not available in Lake Arrowhead.
For LAPOA members who have propane piped to their homes (or who have a tank because the pipe does not go down their street), Amerigas has set our Lake Arrowhead price at $1.99/gallon through September 23, 2023. Our price will be a fixed for the entire year and will not fluctuate with the market. There are no lock-in fees to receive this price. In past years members paid a reduced meter fee which we expect to continue however this year the price has changed to $7.00/month.
Note: If you have a tank and have been charged a fee for propane delivery contact Amerigas for a credit. Amerigas Gaylord: 989-732-5656. Amerigas told us that If the customer is in a home that the pipeline does not cover then they can offer the community pricing. If the pipeline does service the area the home is in and the customer does not want to hook up to the pipeline then they will not be able to enjoy the community pricing. Also, this is for the Lake Arrowhead property only. See:
US Government Survey of Michigan Residential Propane Prices
(Of course the Spot Price does not include transportation costs from the source to the local market, and you have to buy 42,000 gallons at one time!)

Waste Disposal & Recycling
Trash Disposal
Members are asked to recycle to help protect our environment and to keep our disposal costs down. (See below for locations) The community dumpster-compactor is available to members for the disposal of ordinary household garbage. Furniture, construction refuse, yard waste, and other large items may not be discarded at the dumpster or anywhere else on the common grounds. There are dumps in Gaylord, Elmira, and Waters for these types of materials. Normally each June, Hayes Township has a “Clean-Up Day” when large items are accepted at the local dump for a few hours without charge.
Our new trash compactor and building (pictured here), complete with motion activated security cameras to deter illegal dumping (and provide evidence to police) were completed in December 2019.
